Message:
I've had Home Studio 9 for about a year, but have never been able to use it. The problem: it will record from the line in, to individual tracks - e.g. stereo left to track 1, stereo right to track 2 - but it will not play back what is recorded.

The console meters show that Cakewalk is getting the signal and the track information (in the bars, wave format) shows that the digital information is recorded. Playback button, however, has no audible effect.

Can any one here help?

Here are further details:

1 - the console meters, when feeding in a stereo signal from the line in, do show that the signal is coming in properly.

2 - the tracks do seem to record, and in stereo, when I feed them in by selecting "Left Crystal Audio Codec" as the source for track 1 and "Right Crystal Audio Codec" for track two. I can hear the tracks playing properly, and even the metronome/click track, as the signal feeds in. The bar
graphics showing the recorded soundwaves appear to indicate that everything has recorded properly.

3 - hitting play produces no sound. Opening the "Track Properties" dialogue, and switching settings does not help, regardless of what combination of "sources," "ports," and "channels" I use.

4 - volume is set to 127 on both tracks, changing pan does not help

5 - neither "mute" or "solo" buttons are active

6 - In my sound control panel, Master Out settings are all active, except Microphone Balance. Unmuting Microphone Balance does not help.

7 - Crystal 3D is the name of the slider for the soundcard, on the Master Out box, and it is not deselected.

8 - In my Control Panels > Multimedia Properties boxes, the Audio folder's "Playback" box shows only "Crystal Audio Codec" or "Any available device." Crystal Audio Codec is selected.

9 - In my Control Panels > Multimedia Properties boxes, the MIDI folder's "Midi Output" box offers a "single instrument" button or "Custom Configuration" button. "Single Instrument" offers Crystal Wave Synth or Roland MPU-401. Crystal Wave Synth is selected.

10 - In my Control Panels > Multimedia Properties boxes, the DRIVERS folder, under "Audio devices," lists two: "Audio for Crystal Audio Codec" and "Audio for PCI-324 Multimedia Driver."

11 - In the same folder, "MIDI devices..." lists "MIDI for Crystal Audio Codec" and "MIDI for MPU-401Compatible"
