Message:
I am having considerable trouble recording bass guitar.
I have a computer set up in my room and use cakewalk 9, a VX-STK 1202N Mixer and have tried recording bass several different ways but to no avail

I have plugged straight into mixer through the designated mic input which has gain control. Throught this channel it distorted once the the gain was adjusted past 5 (half way) and anything before that there is no volume.

I also plugged straight into left mono input of standard channel (this channel has only EQ and no gain) and this resulted in no volume at all.

The next step was to plug bass through my Zoom 506 fx pedal but this resulted in too much distortion when attempting to record at a decent volume.

My final attempt involved miking up my bass amp with a standard vocal mic (as this is the only mic I had around the house) but this was just as bad as the other processes.

Through all these processes the sounds were distorted or had severe lack of volume and when turned up...distorted.

My question is...what do you suggest I do to record bass at a reasonable volume that can be heard over guitar and drums (I use the fruity loops drum sounds as my drums)
Note that the sound is coming out of regular (but decent) computer speakers. Could this be the problem? I dont really want to buy a specific mic just to record bass if it might not work.

Thanks in advance
