event viewer

not sure which program you are using, i have sonar 3 producer myself. the reset button is setting all midi controllers to their default values. however, there are some events or console automation in your song (set in the beginning) that have the values set to a specific number (say panned way off t...

midi problems

it is possible you have not set up your midi devices in cakewalk - go to tools, midi devices... to do this. for midi out, you'll probably want to choose the one that says 'soundblaster [something or other] synth a' and click move to top if it isn't there already. also, you should check your soundbla...

tracking each part of the drumkit

i mostly agree, but with the soundfont kits i have, the toms and cymbals (hi-hats, crashes, etc.) are already panned where they typically would be. however, i should clarify what i said earlier about recording the toms and cymbals in stereo - i make a separate mono track for the left and right chann...

just noticed

i just exited sonar and my ram usage went from a peak of 618mb down to 167mb... that's around 450mb. so the extra ram might be worth it, but i am clueless as to why sonar would not use the extra physical memory it had available anyway...

ram

the only problem i've had so far performance-wise is with big vsampler instruments. for instance, the huge piano vs3 that comes with sonar producer, even by itself i can't run it real-time with the kind of polyphony i use with piano solos... the cpu meter goes through the roof. i've actually never c...

nvidia

i am using nvidia, and now that i think about it, i recently re-installed an older nvidia card, a tnt2, trying to troubleshoot some monitor problems and i think that's probably when it started. the "newer" card is a geforce2 mx of some sort. if newer drivers don't fix it then i will put the newer ca...

win2k is 32bit

to whoever said that win2k was 16 bit... it isn't. win2k is 32bit, just like xp. there are some differences with xp (besides the cosmetic ones) such as a better virtual machine for running legacy apps. xp has more fluff, so it depends on which platform sonar was tested better on... probably xp. xp p...

vocals

i'm going to assume you mean vocals coming out of your speakers. the first thing you have to do is make sure the audio card you are using with sonar is set to record from the source your vocals are going into. for instance, if you are using the 'mic' input, then make sure your sound card is set to r...

midi drums

i think a lot depends on your midi drum kit - i have several free drum soundfonts (stereo, velocity layered, etc.) i use with my soundblaster live! card (the next thing to get upgraded) and they are all panned properly already. i record the kick and snare mono, each by themselves, and then record th...

same problem

i have the same problem... it seems to have happened randomly. one day sonar is fine, the next it has this toolbar problem you described. i'm running windows 2000 sp4 on a p3 800. did a custom uninstall, removing everything, and re-install with no luck. as far as i know, no change in the operating ...
