I am not real well versed with this software but if your drumset has midi capabilities I would assume you could use that interface to trigger sounds that are built within the Cakewalk software and thus could break them up into different tracks.

Go into Control Panel and look at the Audio tab to make sure the driver that came with M-Audio has been selected.
