Thanks for your response GretscGuy! 2 things: 1) I think that must be it. My laptop has no "line in", unfortunately! After looking around on the web I have discovered that many laptops don't have this, which sucks for me. I guess I will have to look into some sort of USB soundcard. 2) I must tell yo...

Wave out mix?

When I try to record my guitar using the "microphone" input and slider on the "audio properties/recording control" panel, the signal comes in a little fuzzy and has no sustain. However, the signal comes through great when I record using the "wave out" input. Unfortunately, now I cannot figure out ho...

By the way, regarding the weird decay... it seems that when I sustain a chord or note, the volume level decreases drastically immediately after the note it hit, and then maintains a low-volume sustain until it eventually fades away. I hope that makes sense.

Input Signal distorts and decays

I am a beginner using Cakewalk, and I am having trouble recording my guitar. The signal has a mild distortion and has a very weird decay to it, and I have tried recording the guitar both direct (plugged in) AND miked. My input levels are WELL below the red. console sliders have no effect on incoming signal

Hi I just got Cakewalk Guitar Studio, and I am having a problem with mic input levels. It seems that no matter how I adjust the slider in the console view, the input level doesn't change. It doesn't raise or lower the incoming signal. The signal is definitely there, and it records (quiet), but I hav...

Actually, it's not a matter of not getting any signal... I AM getting some. It is a matter of the console-view slider not having any effect on the signal that IS coming through. In fact, I can't seem to adjust the incoming signal in any way, even through the Windows volume control.
