i have every track panned out to different locations but it doesn't seem to be playing back that way. Is it because of a mono/ stereo issue?

i know it has to do with envelopes but whenever i select an envelope it's either for volume, pan or aux bus send and return. I need to create an envelope for effects so i can automate them. of course i may be wrong entirely about this but i need advice. thanks
