Can anyone tell me how I get the plug in effects to be heard when you are recording rather than just on playback?

Soft Synths
Hey there,
I am new to this. Can you tell me how I get the soft synths to be triggered real time by my keyboards (Roland XP50 and Korg T1). I can't get any sound other than the orignal keyboard sound.
