Well, do this.... hit Ctrl/Alt/Delete and bring up the task manager. Look at the total number of Processes running at the bottom, and the commit charge amount. The commit charge is the amount of memory currently in use. As you eliminate unwanted processes, that number will drop. Try www.blackviper.c...

Another thing to consider is how many processes are running in the background. What OS is it...XP or 2000, no I won't go there again (GRIN) see other threads for that arguement, but if you have more than 25 processes running there may be a lot of your issue. If yer using XP, cut off all the crap.......

Yeah...
Yeah, I mean I can't blame Cakewalk....I think they could have picked a better partner than Peavey, but it's just a shame I don't have anything better than the Tascam to choose from. I like it...don't get me wrong, I got the most I could get out of my $1,000.00...A control surface AND built in pre's...

Specific Attention should be paid to ANY major control surface currently on the market. The Mackie Control, Tascam FW1884, and now the Yamaha 01X are the flagship peices of a new era in PC recording. These control surfaces are becoming a mainstay in this type of recording. There needs to be some sor...

I agree, especially considering two things. One, there are NUMEROUS third party utilities that will let me convert it to MP3 anyways REGARDLESS of any sort of lock. Once it's mixdown to a .wav or .wma you can do almost anything to it. Two, if I am going to pay between 300-500 bucks for a peice of so...

Another tip to conserve CPU usage is something people tend to forget about, but it's simple. Use as few effects as possible. Try assigning an effect to an Aux Bus Send instead of to 4 seperate tracks. Tie each track into ONE effect rather than the opposite. Consolidating effects this way can make a ...

When it comes to stability I have no issues with XP. In fact, I find XP to be just as stable as 2000. The difference *I* see is in the Bloat...aka the bells and whistles you just don't need to do the same stuff as the 2000 OS. If all it does is suck resources, why use it? I don't need Eye Candy, I n...

Use the Error Reporting Tool
I am running 3.1.1 on my 3Ghz rig with no issues. My suggestion is to try and catch the crash with the XP Error Reporting tool. If you blue screen and reboot, it will almost garantee to at least tell you what caused it. It will at least give you some idea of the root cause. Once it gives you a start...

Well....
I'm using a Hyperthreaded P4 3.4Ghz chip and I have yet to encounter the problems you describe. I HAVE noticed a few glitches when mixing down to a .wav or MP3 file, but most of that dissapeared with the 3.1.1 update.
