I got it to work. I knew if I fiddled around with it enough I might. I had three devices under MIDI ports. I had them all highlighted. So I tried just highlighting the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth alone, and that did the trick. Thanks anyway for all your help!

Yes, all my other sounds are working fine. It's just the sound in Cakewalk. I checked everything and went through the sound troubleshooter also. Nothing is muted, the volume controls are up. I also tried running the compatibility wizard since this is an older program. No luck.

I am using a sound card and Windows XP. I don't have an external keyboard connected. The sound has worked in the past with this same setup.

How do I assign a different instrument for playback?

Thanks, but just to let you know, it isn't Sonar. It is Cakewalk Score Writer for Windows version 1.0, and there is no audio menu under Options.

How do I assign a different instrument for playback?

Andy, I may be out of luck because I have an early version of Cakewalk, version 1.0. My MIDI output devices are: Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth Creative SB Live! Synthesizer Creative SB Live! How do I assign a different instrument for playback?

Hi,

I am pretty familiar with Cakewalk as far as putting in the notes, etc., but I would like the playback to sound like a violin. How do I set it up for that? I've tried everything. Any help would be appreciated.
