basic recording difficulty

im a really basic beginner and am having trouble just recording from my computer mic. What the heck am i supposed to do?

There should be a load of tutorials covering the basics like that in the manual or in the help file.

Thats the problem. Ive gone through the manual (which sucks) and the help file is unhelpful.
This program was sold to me as one that was easy to use and figure out. I haven't found it so.
SO, can someone PLEASE point me to a file or something like a "quick start" page so I can at least I can see if I am even close to recording something or if there is a problem somewhere else.
