Anywhere I can get an idiots guide to writing a drum track. I have drum sounds as .wav fles that I want to arrange into a beat.

Any suggestions?

If you plan on doing it with .wav samples, you will need to have a very strong foundation of ryhthm. Timing is very important or the whole of the playing will be off.

Anyway, you will need to import a .wav file of the drum sample you want. I would highly suggest one audio track for Kick, one for Snare, one for Toms and one for Cymbals. This way you can eq seperately AND, most importantly, move them around for different timing.

That's all there is to it.

Personally, I use GigaStudio along with Cakewalk to record my rums. Here's how it works:

1- In SoundForge I cut my wav files down to the correct length

2- I import them into GigaStudio and assign each wav to a key on my midi controller (keyboard)

3- I load this newly created instrument into GigaStudio

4- Launch Cakewalk

5- Choose Midi port/gigasampler

6- When you play your keyboard, the wavs are played (just like playing a keyboard drumset!

This method takes a few tries to get good at, but once you master it, you can get some great drumsounds.
