Do I need sequencing software

Hi
To simply transfer MIDI 'Songs' from a Yamaha keyboard to a PC do I need software such as Cakewalk. I have a Vista laptop and a M-Audio Midisport Uno and a Yamaha PSR-225GM keyboard. I have downloaded the latest Vista driver from M-Audio.
So far I have not had any sucess in transferring data from the keybaord to the computer.
