I am looking to recoding my harmonica (live through a mic) accompanied by a midi track. But I do not want the recorded audio track to contain the output from the midi track that I am playing as accompaniment...... figuring I can mix them when I am satisfied with my harmonica's audio track.

How to do that ????

In you soundcard mixer recording options make sure only the microphone check box is selected and it is also selected under the fader for the mic.

Arm an audio track and press record. Stick on a pair of headphones so there is no midi bleeding though the mic and when ready press play or hit the spacebar and start playing.
