creating rhythm notation

I tried garage band on my sister-in-law's computer and it had a feature that used the home row of the computer keyboard as a piano. I could type on the keyboard and the music was recorded on the piano scroll. I could then change pitch or length of the beat on the piano scroll. Can cake walk do this?
