midi playback using cakewalk

I am new at this but everything seems to working fine. the only problem I have is during midi playback from cakewalk there is a very slight slowdown in tempo just for an instant purhaps every ten measures of music or so. Can anyone shed so light on this for me? Do I need to change a setting in the programm somewere?

Could this be interruptions from other applications?
Do you have virus checker/firewalls running at the same time?
Alternatively if you are going through a software based MIDI device like Roland Sound Canvas or Yamaha XG this could create a delay though from your message it would appear the delay is repetitive and occurs at frequent intervals. I wouldnt expect interruptions from other applications to be the cause fo this if the delay occurs at regular intervals.
