Building a PC-What processor should I get???

I am building a PC for use with Cakewalk 2004? I've got all the other components picked out, I just need to figure out what processor to get. Before you tell me to get a $900 Pentium----relax! I need to be reasonable. I need a processor that can handle the load of multitrack recording and mixing. Any suggestions?

You should do this the other way round. Select a motherboard and suitable processor then the other components to support that configuration. Im running a Pentium IV 2.4GHz but I had decent system running on a PIII 1.6GHZ processor

You can buy components for a system to assemble fairly cheaply. I would stay away from P3 stuff.
Get a P4 about2.4Ghz. For a few bucks more you get 2.4 you get a 800Mhz FSB which screams.
From tiger for reference:
2.4 with 400FSB - 159.99
2.4 with 533FSB - 159.99
2.4 with 800FSB - 176.99
Definitley the best 20.00 you can spend. You really want to be carefull when choosing components, certain motherboards have been known to cause problems in systems. Do a search and ask some questions on some of those hard core pc building sites. Also, you want a motherboard that will support your fast FSB or else you wasted your money.
Make sure you buy at least a 7200RMP hard drive. DVD/R drives are cheap now as well and are a nice way to back up projects.
