Question on cakewalk music creator 2003

I've had quite a few problems with this software. Now suddenly all of the console view audio tracks are saying output instead of input, and no meter reading is showing up when I plug in my guitar or microphone. What to do! What to do! What to do! I never knew being a musician and songwriter mean't you had to become a computer tech head. Help please.
