When i play back my tracks in Sonar 5 Producer (this includes during recording), the line on the screen that follows the audio tracks usually goes for about a beat or so and then freezes. The tracks continue to play and it continues to record, but i cant watch what im doing or follow the tracks. Its frustrating. Once in a while I get lucky and it works but mostly it does this. When i first started using the software I did not have this problem, and did not for a long time. But now, of course, that my band is using it to record some demos, im having this issue. I use a Tascam usb US 122. Does anybody know what the cause of this might be or how to fix it?

First thing to do is make sure you have the latest update installed, 5.01 is available over at the Cakewalk site.

I would recommend increasing the latency setting slightly to see if that cures the problem. When the PC is under stress it channels it's resources to audio and then video afterwards.

Other things to check:

Graphics card drivers, are they up to date.
Latest version of Direct X installed.
Batteries fully charged on cordless desktop systems.
