I have the Sonar 5 Producer. What can I do or use to get a real deep (phat Metallica like) sound out of my midi kick drum.? I've tried using my EQ and some reverb, but it doesn't 'Thump' enough. Other question is "Should I be doing anything to the midi track or wait until I create a wave track to do the processing?"

Your using the wrong effects for a thumping drum beat. It's down to compression on the wave track.

Load up the sonitus compressor and try the kick drum preset in the music preset list and see if that makes any difference, then tweak the settings from there.

For my sampled Kick drums I use a start point setting of

Threshhold -14dB
Attack - 2 ms
Release - 35 ms
Ratio - 2
Gain - 3.5dB

and then tweak from there. It depends on your sample and the compressor you use as to what settings you end up with but always make a note or save the settings as a custom preset in sonitus for use again.
