Hi... new member here and fairly new to Sonar.

I just purchased Sonar 5 (producer edition) recently. Everything works great when I work with VSTs, but as soon as I record Audio... Dropouts every few seconds.

I have a Echo Soundcard (MIA midi), and have tried different buffer sizes... tried using WDM and ASIO... nothing.

I used to used Sonar 2, and never had this problem. I also went to the Cakewalk site and followed instructions to fix the AUD.INI file... still doesn't work.

I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

*** PC specs:

P4 3.0 ghz
Asus P4P800 Deluxe mobo
2 gigs RAM
Triton LE
Sonar 5.2

Hard to say what's wrong. Could be settings. You say you could record fine with Sonar 2. What changed?
I assume you are using a seperate hard drive for audio, and that it's clean and defragged, etc?
Did you write down all the settings that you had in ver. 2, and then go through everything and try to set it all that way? Once you get these things working, it's ALWAYS a good idea to record the settings so you can bring it back up not if, but when, your hard drive crashes and you have to start over.
I don't know if ver. 5 puts much more demand on a computer than ver. 2.
Have you tweaked out all the background services and programs so they don't interrupt things? Look at the following for some useful info:

It took me weeks of experimenting to get my system to record and play back a high number of tracks well with VSTis and effects, but it was worth it. I tweaked and tweaked until it would run way more than I'll ever need, but I figured that just gives much more headroom and less likelihood of crashing.

Good luck,

HDB

I guess I have been in that tweaking stage for the last week and a half... and was just really frustrated when the last and most basic piece of the puzzle started acting up (recording audio).

In terms of changes, I recently installed a third HD on my PC, so I'm gonna experiment with recording onto the other HDs.

Really appreciate the links!

I guess right now, that's my Holy Grail... getting my setup to run with more headroom and less crashing. We'll soon see.

Thanks!
