effects in series

How do you patch different effects in series on a track ? By default, sonar
seems to patch them in parallel...

I could be wrong, but I believe that effects are patched in series (the first being the top in the fx list) in Sonar. For instance if you add a compressor than a chorus the signal goes throught he comp then the chorus.
If you wanted to keep your comp free of chorus and vice versa, you could set up some sends and aux routing that way.
A quicker way may be to copy the track, add chorus to one comp to the other then bounce them together.
