"Tick" error in Cakewalk Pro Audio 8.04

Every once in a while, while working in Cakewalk 8.04, I get an error message pop up that simply says "Tick" with an "OK" button. I can't do anything until clickin ok, then the program's graphics go haywire and the program is unstable. I have to exit and start over, and it's fine, until it does it again. Usually an hour or so passes in between episodes.
I'm running Win 98SE, with a 1.7 gig processor and 384 megs memory and plenty of disc space. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions? I can't find any reference to this in any Cakewalk literature or the help files.
