MIDI issue, Cakewalk homestudio 9, Korg X3

I am having a problem with Cakewalk Home Studio 9 and MIDI. I have a 3.5 Ghz cpu running XP (media edition) and i am using a Tascam US-122 to bring the MIDI signal into the program. My problem is that no matter what i do, it seems to be sending data back to both channel 1 and 2 on my Korg X3. So if i am trying to lay down a drum track to go with my piano track, the piano from channel 1 plays in the background of the drums on channel 2.
Argh. I know that i must be missing something simple. I've been through the Korg manual (and have been using the keyboard for years) and i've tweaked every MIDI related function that i can think of in Cakewalk. Any suggestions?

also, on a completely seperate subject, i tried to install my MIDIsport 4x4, to see if it was just the US-122, but Cakewalk does not recognize it at all. I've looked everywhere for the 'add new hardware' or whatever option, but so far nothing seems to have worked.

thank you.
