When I am not playing back or recording, I can hear the sounds coming from my midi keyboard. However, once I record or try to playback a project, I cannot hear the midi data. When recording midi, the data IS recorded however. . . I just can't hear it while recording or on playback. Any suggestions?

You might not have the MIDI OUTPUT selected correctly. There are two options regarding midi, input and output. Sounds like you have the input set correctly but not the output.
