Inserting controllers on individual tracks

We have been trying to insert controllers on individual tracks of a midi file because the file won't play and displays dEr. We thought that putting a controller 0 0 at the beginning would assist the file to read afresh at the start. However, when we insert a controller on one track it comes up on another or adopts the track number or channel of the previous track. And still wont play on the Roland Sound Canvas. Help!!!!!
