rcording audio with midi

I am brand new to cakewalk.I have sonar 3 and my manual and scotts sonar book.I`m using a audiophile 24/96 with a VSC software synth. I guess I`m just stoopid. I laid some midi tracks and now I am trying to put in an audio track but when I arm the audio track for recording I can not hear my midi. When I un-arm my audio track I get my midi sounds back. I am sure there is a simple solution but I have been going over these books for 4 hours now and can`t find anything that explains this to me. Any insight would be so appreceiated.
