SpectraFX axis assignment?

Hello friends!
SpectraFX seems cool as all-get-out. I've applied the Phased Wah to a drum loop and I've set the loop to repeat on the measure. BUT... while the effect has obviously been applied to the sound, I can't hear a damn thing change even though the X and Y axis are moving around. It just sounds like a Phased Wah that's not changing at all. There MUST be a way to assign what X and Y control within the given effect, am I wrong? Furthermore, ANY effect I put on the loop with SpectraFX does the same thing. Applies a static effect and doesn't seem to change at all even though the X and Y axis are in motion. HELP!
