Can this be done -- MIDI recorded drums...

I am wondering if it is possible to record drums (from my alesis dm5) via MIDI into SONAR, and then modify the "drumkit" (like change it from "pop" drums to "jazz" drums) sound of what I recorded?
I am guessing it is possible (benefit of MIDI) and that I'd use something like session drummer to do this, but really have no idea. Would appreciate if someone would post a link or advice on this matter, thanks!
