I'm running cakewalk sonar 7 producer edition on a dell vostro 1700 laptop running windows vista home basic with sigmatel audio drivers.
After installing cakewalk sonar, and running it for the first time; there are no midi output options available. I also tried opening a midi file and playing it, but there was no sound at all.
I'm running into the same problem with CUBASE, but prefer Cakewalk.
The odd thing is that when I open a midi file in windows media player, it plays fine.
What is the problem preventing me from hearing any sound in CAKEWALK, and how do I fix it?
In advance; I apolgize for being such a "n00b"
Re: No midi output found in cakewalk sonar 7? Any ideas?

Your sound card has no built in midi drivers; Its probably playing back through MS GS Wavetable.
You have two choices :
* select GS etc in Sonar as your midi device (btw, its lousy)
* use a softsynth in Cakewalk (reade the manual on how to use one.
Cheers,
Jerry

Try this:
Options > Audio > Advanced tab > Driver Mode > Select "ASIO"
Then restart Sonar, and select gs wavetable syinth as midi output.
Now you should can play midi files
