I've downloaded Cakewalk Sonar7 Internet trial and midi notes can't be heard when I switch on the play button, whatever the instrument or settings and with general midi.
I have a soundblaster sound card with a sigmatel driver.

Do you know what it could be please?

Your sound card probably doesn't have a midi sound generator build into it.

You'll have to use a softsynth, or the terrible MS GS Wavetable.
