Problems recording audio with cakewalk sonar 5

I am trying to record audio with sonar cakewalk 5. I can successfully record onto 1 audio track, however when I try to record audio on a second track the 1st track 'bounces' - ie records onto track 2 as well.
Can anyone help me solve this mystery!!
