Midi probs in Sonar 6PE & Project 5V2

I am using Fantom X7, fw-1884 & Sonar 6PE in XP sp3 trying to figure out the midi in in P5 & sonar 6PE. Have the midi routed and getting midi signal (light) when I press a note on the fantom. Getting meter readings when I hit the preview in a soft synth but for starters no sound and no reading of the soft synth when I hit the X7. Need to get this figured out b4 I go further to any other problem. I'm in Sonar as of now. Don't even want to get to p5 til I get it worked out in sonar. Thanks.
