Hello,

I'd like to buy the new Sonar XL Version but I've the following poblem:

I've tested your demo Version of Sonar on my Computer
(WindowsXP, 1200 Mhz, 1024 MB RAM) and I determine that the CPU is used between 90 and 100 % by sonar.exe task.

I've only make a Loop of 4/4 tact with silence (no output to my external MIDI devices and no other effects).

I also tested the demo Version of my Notebook -> same result
(Notebook WindowsXP, 800 Mhz, 256 MB RAM).

I've red in a Forum, that normally the CPU usage ist between 10 and 40 % by a AMD 850, 500 MB.

I'm really confused, because I can't find any solution for this problem. I've to buy a High End Processor system, then is SONAR not the real product for me.

Thanks for your help !

Greetings from Germany
Frank

Try reducing the buffer size.

Options|Audio|General tab

Down at the bottom of the popup, you will see Wave Profiler. Click that first to profile your sound card. If that doesn't help, increase the buffer size to a higher number. I have mine set at 330msec.

Good luck.

You will also have to disable all those windows background task especially in win XP. Make sure your HD is defragged as well.

Go to this forum and look under "soundcards.audio/io etc" and look for "Aardvark and Nforce2 Boards" With this setup I get up to 109 tracks of audio cleanly.... I use an amd 2800+ 333 fsb overclocked slightly, and can get up to 40 tracks with tons of plugins running,, software reverbs in realtime, usb keyboards to midi, with less than 3 mls of latency within the first 3 tracks, after which you have to plan a bit.. This is a smokin system, with very few lockups, except for the odd quirk.. Check the link above for details and my web for the system itself..

Here is some of the stuff I've been working on, http://sonarXLstuff.iuma.com
Oh. Also doing audio for video is a snap with the asio drivers.. I've had abosolutely no problems with 20 some tracks of audio and plugs while avi file plays along in sync..
So what I'm saying is get a faster processor,,,, now they are cheap.. The 2500 512 FSB overclocks nicely to about oh 2.6 gigs with a Vantec cpu cooler and a small cooler on the southbridge pointin down at the agp slot for further cooling of the video card, which I overclock a ti6400 to well over 580mhz with no problems now for over six months or so.. :P
Good luck
