My computer isn't playing MIDIs

My computer used to play MIDIs and then I didn't play them for a while...half a year, maybe? And when I tried again, it didn't play them anymore. Now it LOOKS like it's playing, but there's no sound. I'm on Windows 98.

Check the mixer settings using the loudspeaker icon in the system tray
