not able to record or playback

when ever i try to record or playback nothing happens and "audio stopped" appears at the bottom of sonar. please help

This is known as a drop out. Go into the options > audio menu and adjust the latency slider towards the right. This will give you greater latency but smoother audio.

Also press ctrl alt del before you start a recording session and close down all programs running in the background that you don't need, ie anti virus and all those annoying windows things.

Make sure you keep you HD in good condition with all your audio files in one place and keep it defragged.

Then it's down to your sound card, if you have onboard sound or a card without good WDM drivers then you are going to get latency problems, just adjust that slider backwards and forward to find the right balance between latency and no audio stutters or dropouts.

If the slider bar doesn't help, go to the Options|Audio|Advance tab and make sure "Use MME..." box is checked .
