Problem Recording/Playing

Hello.
I have Cakewalk Home Studio 2004, and it's not working properly.
When I press the "R" button on the tracks, it doesn't "press" in. It doesn't go red like it ususally does and it won't record because of that. I tried recording in another program then dragginh and dropping into cakewalk so I can play two tracks at once but even that won't work. When I press play it stops automatically.
Could someone help me please? It would be greatly appreciated
