using music creator with edirol and sibelius

Sibelius 3 does not allow the use of software synths other than its own, so I am currently yoking it to cakewalk for playback purposes. The problem I have been having with this is that Cakewalk refuses to play while Sibelius is maximized. I had this working once, and I don't remember how. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it working again?
