Quiet Microphone record level... help

When I record, the volume when I playback is really really low. I barely can't hear anything. When i speak into the MIC, I don;t hear it coming out of my speakers... i remember I used to be able to. My volume control is set to high, and the mic option is set on high and it is not on mute. Is there anything else I need to do? I have a soundBlaster Extigy...... I use to be doing fine with it. I also have Sonar 4 Production Edition. PLese Help!
