slowing tempo by half not working

Trying unsuccessfully to slow the tempo of an audio(wav) file by entering a new tempo in the tempo tool bar. The goal is to have the music play back half as fast for transcribing. Using P4 computer with 512 ram 3.0gHz cakewalk 9.0
This version of cakewalk changed tempos fine with my old computer, but on this computer does nothing. The wav looks twice as short when the tempo's cut in half, but it sounds no slower when played back.
Clock is set on "audio"
Any suggestions?
