Vst DXi Soft synth echo problem

I recently bought a new computer with a Realtek HD audio sound card and I'm running Sonar LE.
My problem is whenever I run a MIDI track thru any of the soft synths that I have, I get repeated notes echoing around just as if I had applied the Echo/delay Midi effect, yet there are no effects active.
If I send the Midi track out of the computer to a hardware sound module everything is ok, it's only while using a soft synth.
I've tried reinstalling everything but it's still the same and checked all settings as far as I can. Everything worked fine on my old computer.
Could it be a conflict with the sound card ?
