Issue with audio imput and clipping

I just bought Cakewalk 6 producer and would like to hook my 4 track mixer into my laptop computer. I'm connecting straight into the computers motherboard Sigmatel Audio card through the mic port. When I try to send music from the mixer to the computer I can't hear it on cakewalk, but it does record. Then when I go to play it there is a constant hiss and a clipping ever second even though i'm not in the red. It clips when i turn the imputs audio down to the lowest level. Is there a solution to these problems?
