Trouble Turning .cpw into .mp3

I'm trying to convert my Cakewalk audio files into .mp3 form. I'm able to export them as .rm, .wav, (RIFF Wave, Real Audio and Broadcast wave). I'm trying to change them to mp3 using Creative Audio Converter, but everytime it converts, the mp3 plays in Media Player with loud scratchy honks.
Does anyone know anything about this? Its really frustrating.
