I have Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 installed on a Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop running XP. After I ran the install and rebooted the system, Cakewalk install splash screen came up and said that cakewalk has analyzed my system and has found that Microsoft DirectShow 5 needed to be installed. I clicked OK and a message came up saying that DirectShow 5 has been installed and to reboot. I reboot and that same thing happens. If I go through and choose not to reboot, I can go to CW and use it with no problem, but I don't want the installer coming up every time I reboot the system. Can you help ?????

This has been asked before and I suggested going to Microsoft site and downloading the latest version of Directshow and then trying to reinstall.

There has been nothing posted back so I don't know if it worked or not. Maybe he is too busy making music now :D

did not work

There is no download for directshow in the microsoft website.

I found that directx 9 is supposed to have direct show included.

I have no answer for this problem.

what I did as a temporary solution is that I cancelled the install and stopped it from restarting at boot up then installed again but this time as a "compact" install.
This is an option that will not attempt to install direct show.

Problem is that the effects do not work but everything else looks ok so far.

same

If your effects don't work you need Windows Update. Remove all Cakewalk files (including registry entries from your system - Very Important!)

Reinstall Cakewalk PA9

Get Windows DirectX9.0

Problem should be solved. I had the same problem a while back. My guess is you have registry keys sitting around on your system.
Good Luck!

Cakewalk runs the setup.exe file from the 'run once' entry
in the registry each time you start up.

You need to find this entry in the registry and delete it!

Be careful with the following....you are editing the registry!

Run regedit

(Start/Run.../type regedit/OK)

Navigate to....

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

You will see a path to the cakewalk setup.exe file.

Delete this entry (left click - choose delete)

Reboot

Have Fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!
