why do console sliders move by themselves ?? please anyonr

So in recording audio..no midi...i play back the tracks...adjust volume and balance (L and R) on each track to where i like it..press stop and hit the back (rewind) to beginning of track and all the settings i just made go back to what they were ...i dont understand this...i try "save" before i hit back but it dosent matter...im using CW 9...can anyone please help me its very frustrating...ty
