sonar 2.2 demo

I have, and use regularly an old version of Cakewalk 4.1 and need to upgrade. So downloaded a demo version of Sonar 2.2 for evaluation but i can't hear sound on it? my old version works fine but when i drag and drop midi files into Sonar, everything seems to be working ok but no sound? Volume controls and everything seem ok. What could be the proble? I am running Windows 98
