question about using dxi with mc2004

Hi:
I am a relative newbie to this all. Has anyone had the problem that if they are using the edirol vsc Dxi to play, after I change the sound about 4 or 5 times in channel 1, just playing with and hearing the sounds the vsc just halts up and stops recieving any midi data...wierd.
would love some insight or help.
