Hi,

I just got Cakewalk, and my new Audiophile, and I'm trying to record my 11'th (audio) track. I arm the track and play, but at the end of the recording session, the recording doesn't show up in the right-hand side of the track view as usual. But, if I only record for a few seconds it does. I'm wondering if this is perhaps due to my sluggish computer... I have a 5 year old P3-500 with 128 Megs of Ram. My hard drive is not bad - 7200 RPM and 40 Gigs.

Is this likely to be the reason that I can't record the next track?

Another question, while I'm at it. Cakewalk won't let me set the driver bit depth to 24 bit - only to 16. My card is definately a 24 bit one, though. Is this perhaps because my regular sound card (an old Sound Blaster) is limitting things, even though I select which device to record at record time? Or, do I have to configure my Audiophile on it's own to produce 24 bit resolution?

Thanks a lot :)

I've had this problem before and found it to be just a glitch. I ended up saving what I had, shutting cakewalk down and starting it up again. This used to cure it.

If it is due to a sluggish computer, make sure none of you tracks are running with effects on them, either remove the effects until you have finished recording or bounce it down to pure audio.

Also try archiving tracks that you don't really need to listen to whilst recording the next track. Don't just mute them because this still uses processor power, archiving them doesn't. When you have finished all your takes you can un-archive them and the PC should be able to cope with loards of audio tracks in playback only.

That sounblaster live card will be causing you all sorts of problems and limitations on your system, it might even be partially responsible for the above problem. I would get rid of it and get some software to play soundfonts if you need them. Remember to edit all the creative entries out of you registry when you remove it. Either that or do a reformat and reinstall to get rid of all traces of it.

Hope that's of some help.

Thanks a lot for the help. I like the idea of getting rid of the old Soundblaster card, just to make sure I'm using not being comprimized by it. I'm just not sure how I'll be able to do things like listen to CD's, and stuff. Would the Audiophile be able to do that stuff as well? Is that what you mean?
