What is needed to record drum beats created with my Roland R8 into Cakewalk?

My MIDI input and output ports are correct, but beyond making the R red and clicking the Record button I don't know what else to do. Actually when I click record I'm hearing a click track.

I'd like to configure CW so that I can press play on my Roland and the track will be recorded.

Please help? Thanks!

Set the cakewalk sync to midi and you drum machime to master or internal. Make sure the drum machine output is the same as the channel you have selected in cakewal ie. channel ten.

Arm your track and press record, nothing will happen until you press play or a pad on the machine.
