When I use my midi keyboard as an input device, my "virtual piano" has almost 0 lag time, but when I use it in cakewalk, theres about half a second of delay. how do i fix this?
thanks,

Windows XP has its own software-based midi synthesizer. Unfortunately, the response time of this synthesizer is slower than that of a hardware synthesizer, so it is not good for real time synthesis such as that required for playing a keyboard through cakewalk and hearing the sounds as you play them -- there is about a half-second delay on my machine.

To fix this, in cw 9, go to the options menu, then choose midi devices. In the dialog box, there is a list box labeled "output ports" -- you should identify the synthesizer(s) from your hardware and move them to the top of the list, ahead of the synthesizer from Microsoft labeled something like "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth." Hit ok to commit the changes. After that, you should be able to hear your keyboard or other instrument through cw in real time.

Hope this helps.
